More than 5,000 “splendid specimens” of horses, hogs, cattle and sheep drew 150,000 spectators to Kansas City, Mo., and the event — “a tribute to the role of agriculture in the growth of the Middle West” — had many diversions, including a horsemanship contest for teenagers.
